Richard Gere hosting Aruba film festival

Richard Gere will host the inaugural Aruba International Film Festival when it opens June 4.

The actor and activist also will receive a humanitarian award and participate in the festival’s public “In Conversations With” series.
“Richard Gere is a man whose amazing career is matched only by his remarkable and ongoing humanitarian pursuits,” said AIFF artistic director Claudio Masenza. “Onscreen, and off, Richard has an iconic presence and is revered around the world. We are both honored and excited to have him attend the first Aruba International Film Festival and take such an active role in the event.”

Richard Gere and Topher Grace Head for Spy Thriller

The Soviets are on the hit list again with Michael Brandt’s new thriller. After penning action-heavy pics like Wanted and the gritty western 3:10 to Yuma with writing partner Derek Haas, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Brandt will make his directorial debut in The Double (also written with Haas), alongside freshly picked stars Richard Gere and Topher Grace.

After a senator gets murdered in Washington, the hunt for his killer begins. But there’s a twist — the culprit is a Soviet assassin believed to be dead. In order to catch the baddie, his old nemesis — a retired CIA operative (Gere) — must join forces with a young FBI agent (Grace) to find the assassin. Brandt says that he hopes this film follows in the tradition of films like The Conversation and No Way Out.
